How can the transition to circular economy be supported?
Researchers at the University of Utrecht, including CRESTING Supervisor Walter Vermeulen and CRESTING researcher Kieran Campbell-Johnson, have recently published a White paper on transforming extended producer responsibly to aid the circular goals of the Netherlands. Extended producer responsibility plays an important role in the transition to circular economy and is a key part of both the Dutch circular economy agenda and the European Green New Deal. The Netherlands has extensive experience with this instrument. However, the new demands of circular economy, such as reducing virgin materials consumption, require immediate changes to an instrument that was developed over 20 years ago. This White paper provides analysis on the current strengths, limitations and pathways for improvement.
